Womb to World

This course focuses on the transition from womb to world from the perspective of the newborn. It supports practitioners to feel fully able to offer parents and parents to be practical, holistic advice during those first few months at home, when crying, feeding and sleep issues can feel overwhelming.

It also includes a parent pdf for you to use in your classes and workshops. This explains birth from baby's perspective, why recreating the womb environment is so important, how to recognise baby's cues, recognising colic and how to respond to baby's needs using nurturing touch, feeding support- including tongue tie and common breastfeeding issues in the early days.

It includes practical demonstrations of holds to calm and settle and massage routines to nurture and support early attachment as well as a skin to skin meditation, a hygge checklist for creating a calm environment and a space to journal the early days. It also includes guidelines for creating a natural Montessori inspired keepsake, which you can do at your classes or workshops for parens to take home.

On completion of this course practitioners will be able to :

1: Demonstrate an understanding of birth from the perspective of the baby and how this can impact the fourth trimester

2: Show awareness of the major differences between life inside the womb and life after birth and how this transition can have an impact on babies

3: Understand the importance of nurturing touch and responsive parenting

4: Safely support parents with feeding and sleep issues during the fourth trimester

5: Have an understanding of colic and reflux and demonstrate techniques to calm, soothe and settle babies

6: Understand common breastfeeding issues during the early days, including tongue tie.

7: Understand professional limitations and when/how to refer parents for further support

8: Be confident in running Womb to World workshops and classes and offering private consultations to parents/parents to be.

Throughout each section of the course you will see 'Practitioner Reflection Journal' points. These are designed to give you the opportunity to reflect on how your thinking may be changing or your perception of the subject may be shifting. Completing the Practitioner Reflections will support your answers at the end of the course and is a useful way to practice reflective working. You should set up a 'Reflective Journal' notebook (either on paper or electronically) and makes notes of your refections. These are completely personal to you and will not be marked, but form an important part of your study. If reflective practice is something that is new to you then you can find useful information about it within the files section of our closed facebook group and free business toolkit.
